WWE Legend Explodes Over Asuka Controversy – Bubba Ray Dudley Jumps In To Back Goldberg

WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg recently stirred up the wrestling world by expressing frustration over Asuka breaking his legendary undefeated streak. His comments sparked backlash, but another WWE legend has stepped in to defend him.

Goldberg’s WCW streak remains one of wrestling’s most iconic runs. Beginning the moment he debuted on WCW TV, he racked up 173 straight wins, held the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, and went unbeaten for over a year before Kevin Nash finally ended the streak at Starrcade 1998.

Years later, Asuka arrived in WWE and embarked on her own historic streak across NXT and the main roster, lasting an incredible 914 days — surpassing Goldberg’s record. That didn’t sit well with Goldberg, who made controversial remarks about the achievement and even mispronounced Asuka’s name while discussing it.

Bubba Ray Dudley Fires Back at Critics

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bubba Ray Dudley defended Goldberg, claiming the Hall of Famer’s comments were misunderstood.

According to Dudley, Goldberg wasn’t wrong to be protective of his legacy:

“Some wrestlers take things lightly, some take it seriously. Bill takes it very seriously. He came from real professional sports — he wasn’t taught the wrestling mentality from day one.”

Dudley also addressed Goldberg saying “Asuka” incorrectly:

“If you’ve only seen the name on paper, you’d pronounce it phonetically. He may not know her personally — that’s it.”

Dudley argued Goldberg simply values the legacy of his streak and the spear, pointing out that every performer treats their accomplishments differently:

“To some, it’s entertainment. To others, it’s real pride and passion. Bill takes it seriously — and there’s nothing wrong with that.”

This debate highlights a long-running divide in wrestling: the purists who take their legacy to heart vs. those who treat the business purely as entertainment. And for Goldberg, his streak remains sacred — even years later.
