WWE Insider Drops Bombshell: “Triple H & Stephanie Ruined Promos—Everything Became Fake!”

Former WWE writer Vince Russo didn’t hold back during his recent appearance on WrestleBinge, blasting the promo culture in WWE and pointing fingers directly at the Triple H–Stephanie McMahon era.

According to Russo, WWE promos lost their natural feel once heavy scripting became the norm. He described how today’s stars constantly study pages of notes and stick to rehearsed lines — a far cry from what he calls the “real” days of wrestling.

Russo explained that in his time, talent was only given key bullet points and then trusted to talk like actual humans, not robots reading a script. Wrestlers worked out only a few cues with each other and brought their own voice to the mic.

He argued that the shift happened once Triple H and Stephanie McMahon took creative power. In his words, they wanted complete control, and scripted promos became the backbone of WWE TV — something Russo believes killed authenticity and hasn’t changed since.

Fans who miss raw, unpredictable microphone battles may find themselves agreeing with Russo’s stance: promos should feel real, not recited.
