Confusion Surrounds Drew McIntyre’s WWE Suspension — Is It Real or Just Storyline Drama?
The WWE Universe has been buzzing ever since Drew McIntyre’s shocking suspension on SmackDown last Friday — but it looks like the real story might not be what fans were led to believe.
During the closing moments of SmackDown, McIntyre lost his cool, attacking referee Dan Engler and bringing chaos to the main event between WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Aleister Black. That outburst led General Manager Nick Aldis to officially suspend “The Scottish Warrior” on the spot.
Soon after, reports surfaced suggesting the suspension was WWE’s way of writing McIntyre off TV for a movie project. Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer claimed Drew would be stepping away to film an upcoming movie role — sparking rumors that it might be the long-awaited Highlander remake he was linked to earlier this year.

However, there’s a big problem with that theory. According to Deadline, production for Highlander won’t even begin until early 2026, as the project was delayed after lead actor Henry Cavill suffered an injury. So, if McIntyre is off filming something, it’s not that movie.
Now, a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider is pouring cold water on the movie rumors altogether. Johnson insists McIntyre isn’t shooting any film at the moment — and that his “suspension” is purely part of WWE’s ongoing storyline.
For months, McIntyre has been laser-focused on the WWE Championship, but his recent losses to Cody Rhodes at Wrestlepalooza and Saturday Night’s Main Event have left him frustrated and desperate. His latest meltdown might just be the next chapter in that ongoing story of redemption and rage.
With Cody now joining CM Punk’s WarGames team ahead of Survivor Series on November 29, McIntyre could be left without a clear path — at least for now. But if there’s one thing WWE fans know, it’s that Drew McIntyre doesn’t stay silent for long.
And given WWE’s track record of “banned” stars sneaking back into arenas, don’t be surprised if the Scottish Warrior storms SmackDown again this Friday in Albany, New York. Whether suspended or not, McIntyre never lets anyone forget his presence — especially when revenge is on his mind.
