Bron Breakker Opens Up About His Bond with John Cena Before the Legend’s Final Match

As John Cena’s legendary WWE career nears its end, one rising star is feeling the weight of what that means — and the opportunity it could bring.

Bron Breakker, one of WWE’s fastest-rising powerhouses, recently spoke about his relationship with the 17-time World Champion ahead of Cena’s upcoming retirement match on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Since kicking off his farewell tour in 2025, Cena has gone head-to-head with the biggest names in the company — from Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton to CM Punk and Brock Lesnar. But along the way, the veteran has also made it a mission to give back — helping the next generation of WWE talent rise to the spotlight.

Earlier this week on Raw, Cena announced that his final major show will feature a special NXT vs. WWE main roster showdown — a move aimed at showcasing younger superstars ready to carry the torch.

Cena’s passion for mentorship has been evident all year. He even spent time training and guiding young prospects at the WWE Performance Center, where he said their hunger reignited his own love for wrestling.

And that passion hasn’t gone unnoticed.

In a new interview with the Boston Herald, Bron Breakker opened up about how much Cena has influenced him both in and out of the ring.

“It’s been an honor to learn from him,” Breakker said. “He’s a quality human being and always makes himself approachable. We’ve built a real connection, and I can’t thank him enough. There aren’t many chances left, so if I get the opportunity to face him, I’ll be ready.”

Breakker’s respect is clear — but so is his ambition. The former NXT Champion, Tag Team Champion, and Intercontinental Champion has made it known that he’s not just learning from Cena — he’s preparing to one day replace him at the top.

Currently aligned with Paul Heyman in Seth Rollins’ “Vision” faction, Breakker is set to lead Team Heyman in the upcoming War Games match at Survivor Series, alongside Logan Paul and Bronson Reed, against Team CM Punk — featuring Jey Uso and Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes.

Meanwhile, Cena recently achieved one final career milestone — becoming a WWE Grand Slam Champion after defeating Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Title in Boston, completing the last missing piece of his historic résumé.

His farewell opponent on December 13, however, is still a mystery. Sixteen superstars are battling it out in the “Last Time Is Now” tournament for the right to face Cena in his final WWE match. Rusev and Sheamus have already advanced, inching closer to that once-in-a-lifetime moment.

Whether Bron Breakker joins that tournament remains unknown — but one thing is certain: if the young powerhouse does get that chance, he plans to make it count.
