“I Felt Like a Superhero”: Rob Van Dam Reveals the Loudest, Wildest WWE Crowd of His Career—And It Was Pure Chaos

WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam has wrestled in front of some of the biggest crowds in sports entertainment history. Packed arenas. Stadium shows. Deafening reactions around the world.

But when asked about the loudest and most intense crowd he ever experienced, RVD didn’t hesitate — and the answer takes fans straight back to one of the most unforgettable nights in wrestling history.

One Night. One Arena. Absolute Madness.

The moment came at ECW One Night Stand 2006, when Rob Van Dam challenged John Cena for the WWE Championship inside New York City’s legendary Hammerstein Ballroom.

From the second Cena appeared, the atmosphere was explosive.

The fiercely loyal ECW crowd made their feelings crystal clear — nonstop boos, toilet paper flying through the air, and even Cena’s own T-shirt being thrown back before the match officially began. It wasn’t just loud. It was hostile. And it was historic.

“The Most Interactive Crowd of My Entire Career”

Speaking recently with GamesHub, Van Dam was asked if that night still stands out above everything else he experienced in wrestling. His response was immediate.

“Definitely the most responsive and interactive crowd out of my whole career,” Van Dam said.

RVD explained that the unique design of the Hammerstein Ballroom amplified the chaos even more.

“They were so loud in the building, and with the shape of the room, it doesn’t allow the sound to escape like it does through a huge skydome,” he explained.
“Everybody’s energy was shared with one big pool of hardcore energy.”

“It Felt Like Surfing a Wave”

For Van Dam, the crowd wasn’t just background noise — it became fuel.

“Just a big pool of hardcore energy that completely filled the room up,” he said.
“I was riding on their energy. It was like surfing on a wave. It was so awesome.”

The moment meant even more because it wasn’t just about winning a title — it was about ECW returning on WWE’s biggest stage.

“Not only did I get ECW back — which is my favorite and my best showcasing — but it was on WWE’s center stage, so everyone got to see us.”

“I Felt Completely Unbeatable”

That electric atmosphere pushed Van Dam into a mindset he says he’s never truly replicated.

“I felt like I was completely unbeatable,” RVD revealed.
“I felt like a superhero that night.”

Fueled by the crowd, the moment, and the history behind it, Van Dam said he walked into that match ready to deliver something unforgettable.

“I felt amazing, and I was out to amaze.”

A Night Fans Still Talk About

Nearly two decades later, ECW One Night Stand 2006 remains a benchmark for crowd energy — and Rob Van Dam’s reflections only confirm why.

It wasn’t just loud.

It was raw.
It was rebellious.
And for one night, Rob Van Dam truly felt unstoppable.
