Rey Mysterio’s Sudden RAW Absence Explained—Backstage Update Finally Revealed

Rey Mysterio’s absence from this week’s episode of WWE RAW immediately caught fans’ attention, especially after the Hall of Famer had been active just weeks ago.

The legendary luchador was last seen on the December 29, 2025, edition of RAW, where he picked up a victory over Austin Theory via disqualification. Since then, questions have been swirling about why one of WWE’s most recognizable stars was nowhere to be found on Monday night.

A new backstage report has now cleared things up.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Mysterio missed this week’s RAW due to a minor injury. The good news for fans is that the issue is not serious, and his time away from television is expected to be short.

Meltzer noted that Rey’s absence was purely precautionary and added that the former world champion “will be back quickly,” easing concerns about a long-term layoff.

While Mysterio was off TV, his name was still very much in the spotlight.

Austin Theory took aim at Rey during a recent appearance on the “RAW Recap” podcast, delivering sharp words about the WWE icon and his relationship with Dominik Mysterio. Theory accused Rey of holding Dominik back and even mocked Mysterio for not being present on RAW, referring to him as a “deadbeat” while defending Dirty Dom’s independence.

Despite the online jabs and storyline tension, all signs point to Rey Mysterio returning to WWE programming sooner rather than later. With his rivalry connections still active and his injury considered minor, his comeback could be right around the corner—and fans will be watching closely when he steps back onto RAW.
