Cody Rhodes’ WWE Future Revealed: Why a Shocking Heel Turn Isn’t Happening Anytime Soon

Speculation around Cody Rhodes’ WWE character has been heating up in recent weeks, with many fans convinced that “The American Nightmare” is quietly being positioned for a long-awaited heel turn. The rumors picked up steam following Rhodes’ tense on-screen confrontations with SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, which sparked widespread debate online.

However, a new backstage update suggests fans shouldn’t expect any major character shift from Rhodes in the near future.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has no current plans to turn Cody Rhodes heel. Sources within the company have reportedly downplayed the online chatter, stating that a heel turn is not on the creative roadmap at this time. While WWE is never completely closed off to the idea, any potential change would only be considered if it became absolutely necessary.

One major reason for that hesitation is business. Rhodes continues to be one of WWE’s top merchandise sellers, and the company is said to be unwilling to disrupt a formula that is still generating strong revenue. As a result, his babyface run is expected to remain intact for the foreseeable future.

The report further notes that this stance is unlikely to change “any time soon,” reinforcing the belief that WWE sees more value in keeping Rhodes as a heroic centerpiece rather than reinventing him as a villain.

Rhodes recently lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre on the January 9 episode of SmackDown, thanks in part to interference from Jacob Fatu. That moment has since launched a new rivalry, with Rhodes shifting his focus toward Fatu as his next major obstacle.

The two are scheduled to collide in a singles match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, a bout that could play a key role in determining Rhodes’ path heading into the next phase of WWE’s calendar.

For now, despite the rumors and speculation, Cody Rhodes remains firmly positioned as WWE’s American Nightmare hero — and a heel turn doesn’t appear to be coming anytime soon.
