The Rock Looks Completely Unrecognizable in First Moana Trailer – And WWE Fans Are Spotting Something Else
Dwayne Johnson is turning heads again, but this time it’s not for a WWE comeback. The first trailer for Disney’s live-action Moana dropped this week, giving fans their first real look at Johnson as the demigod Maui. And the transformation is striking. Gone is the clean-cut star audiences are used to seeing. In his place is a version of Maui with long, flowing hair and the character’s signature Polynesian tattoos rendered in stunning detail.
It’s a look that takes the animated character Johnson voiced in 2016 and grounds it in something far more tangible. Reactions have been divided. Some viewers are praising the commitment to authenticity, while others are still deciding if the wig and overall presentation match the Maui they’ve had in mind for nearly a decade.
The film sails into theaters on July 10, 2026, with Johnson also pulling double duty as a producer.

But while Hollywood has his look locked in, the wrestling world is paying attention to something else entirely.
During a recent episode of WWE RAW, a backstage segment featuring LA Knight and The Usos included a blink-and-you-miss-it detail. A production truck in the background had Johnson’s image displayed front and center. It was a quick shot, but it didn’t go unnoticed by fans who have been waiting for any sign of movement from the man who last appeared at Elimination Chamber 2025, where he helped set John Cena’s shocking heel turn in motion by attacking Cody Rhodes.
He hasn’t been seen on WWE programming since. With The Bloodline storyline still very much alive, that one small moment on RAW has been enough to stir fresh speculation about whether The Final Boss is quietly getting ready to step back into the ring.
Between a blockbuster transformation on screen and a subtle tease in the wrestling world, Johnson is once again proving he knows exactly how to keep people watching.
