Booker T Breaks Down Crying On Air? WWE Hall of Famer Admits He Was Completely Blindsided By Emotional NXT Tribute

Most fans assumed Booker T knew exactly what was coming when WWE rolled out the red carpet for his NXT Appreciation Night. But according to the man himself, that emotional moment you saw on television was about as real as it gets.

During a candid chat on the Hall of Fame podcast, the WWE legend opened up about the tribute that took place last week in Houston. While viewers at home watched the celebration unfold, Booker revealed that he was sitting in the dark right alongside them—literally.

He admitted that he only found out about the elaborate plan a week before it aired, and even then, it wasn’t through the usual backstage channels. In fact, he was caught so off guard that he immediately called out his broadcast partner, Vic Joseph, after the announcement hit the screen.

“That was a shoot,” Booker explained, using wrestling slang to emphasize the genuine surprise. “I told Vic, I was like, ‘Come on dog, you could have told me that.’ But they wanted to surprise me as well on that side.”

The tactic worked. What followed wasn’t just a standard wrestling segment; it was a moment that cracked the facade of the five-time world champion.

Booker admitted that keeping his composure was the hardest part of the night. He confessed that viewers weren’t seeing an act—they were watching a legend trying desperately not to lose it in the ring.

“I’m just glad to have been here to see it more than anything,” he shared. “It’s crazy, in those moments you wonder how you gonna act. Because it’s wrestling, it’s wrestling. And for me, moments like that are just real moments. So for me, it was hard to hold back tears.”

He went on to explain that the overwhelming support from the roster and the fans in attendance finally got to him.

“So you may think it was for television, but I actually was choked up a little bit about the whole situation,” he said. “And I’m seeing—like I say, everybody that came out, all the fans that came out to see me. Which was like, so awesome.”

The appreciation didn’t end when the cameras stopped rolling. Booker noted that seeing the outpouring of love on social media the next day solidified just how special the night truly was.

“It was special. It really was special.”
