Chris Jericho Shocks the Wrestling World Again—His New AEW Contract Status Finally Revealed
The wrestling legend is here to stay. After sending fans into a frenzy with his surprise return on last week’s Dynamite, Chris Jericho isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
According to the latest update from Fightful Select’s Q&A, Y2J has quietly signed a brand new deal with All Elite Wrestling. While it was previously assumed that his contract simply got extended because of his time away from the ring, Sean Ross Sapp is now reporting that Jericho is locked in for the long haul. His words: Jericho is “there for the foreseeable future.”
But that wasn’t the only mystery from his comeback. Fans quickly noticed that the promotion introduced him simply as “Jericho,” sparking rumors that he might have dropped his first name. Turns out, that’s not the case. The roster page still lists his full name, and insiders confirm he’s still using it.

Meanwhile, AEW boss Tony Khan opened up on the Coach and Bro podcast about how the deal went down. Khan revealed that Jericho was technically a free agent and actively chose AEW over other options. He also made a fascinating point—contrary to what most fans believe, wrestlers are absolutely allowed to talk to other companies while under contract.
Khan explained that while there are some early restrictions in these deals, trying to enforce “contract tampering” rules as deals expire is nearly impossible. Unlike the NFL or NBA, pro wrestling has no union or players’ association to police those conversations. In other words, the playing field is far wilder than anyone thinks.
For now, Jericho is back where he belongs. And if this new contract is any sign, fans haven’t seen the last of his legendary reinventions.
