WWE Star Shuts Down ‘Next Rock’ Comparisons In Honest New Interview

The rising talent addresses the biggest compliment—and why he wants nothing to do with it. One of WWE’s fastest-rising stars is already tired of hearing one particular name, and it is a name most wrestlers would kill to be linked with.

Trick Williams, the former NXT standout who recently moved to the main roster, has been turning heads with his natural charisma, signature catchphrases like “whoop that trick,” and an undeniable presence that feels straight out of the Attitude Era. So much so that fans and even WWE commentator Wade Barrett have started comparing him to The Great One himself, The Rock.

But here is the twist. Williams does not want the comparison at all.

In a recent interview with The Sun, the 31-year-old star opened up about how he handles the lofty expectations. He admitted that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was a massive reason he even got into the wrestling business. He studied The Rock’s promos obsessively, trying to understand how one person could make an entire arena hang on every word with just a raised eyebrow.

However, Williams made it crystal clear that studying and copying are two very different things.

“By no means do I want to be the next Rock,” Williams stated firmly. He explained that while he wants to feel the same electricity and hear the crowd explode the moment his music hits, he refuses to be a carbon copy. “I got to be the new Trick Williams, the one and only Trick Williams. What The Rock has done has already been done. So I gotta find a way to do it.”

For Williams, the goal is not to fill The Rock’s shoes but to build his own closet. He wants to capture that same feeling of controlling a room with pure presence, but he intends to do it as himself, not as a tribute act.

Fans will get to see exactly what that looks like very soon. Williams is scheduled to challenge Sami Zayn for the WWE United States Championship at WrestleMania 42, a massive opportunity that could prove whether his unique brand of confidence translates to championship gold.
