His Dad Lied To Him For Years: Cody Rhodes Finally Admits The Shocking Truth About That Famous Birthmark

WWE fans know that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes carries the same legendary charisma his father, Dusty Rhodes, was famous for. But there is one physical trait the son never quite understood until recently: his father’s dark “splotch” on his torso.

For years, Cody believed a wild story about how his dad got that mark. The truth is much less violent, but the lie itself tells you everything you need to know about how intense wrestling used to be.

During a recent episode of “What Do You Wanna Talk About? With Cody Rhodes,” the current champion joined wrestling legend Jimmy Hart. Hart was sharing a crazy memory about getting shot in the backside with a homemade blow dart by a fan in Louisville. That story triggered something in Cody.

Cody opened up about the time he asked his father about the famous birthmark.

“I asked what it was, it’s a mark on his stomach and he told me that someone stabbed him,” Cody admitted.

The son believed it. He thought back to the days when Dusty was teaming with Dick Murdoch as the villainous Texas Outlaws duo. In Cody’s mind, the heat was so real and so dangerous that an angry fan must have pulled a knife on his dad.

But then Cody revealed the real, much simpler answer.

“It’s a birthmark.”

Dusty Rhodes, the master storyteller, had turned a natural skin mark into a war wound. He wanted his son to understand that in the old-school wrestling world, the lines between performance and genuine danger were always blurred.

Cody reflected on how that lie shaped his perception. He remembered thinking to himself, “Dang… there was that much heat?” For a moment, he saw his father not as a performer, but as a warrior who survived a real attack just for stepping into the ring.

It is a small moment, but it captures the magic of Dusty Rhodes perfectly. He could take something as ordinary as a splotch and turn it into a legend. Now, fans will never look at that famous mark the same way again.
