WWE Fans Shocked: Is Alberto Del Rio Really Returning After Controversial Past?
The wrestling world is buzzing once again, and this time it’s all about Alberto Del Rio. Ever since WWE’s blockbuster acquisition of AAA earlier this year, rumors have been flying about whether the former WWE Champion might step back into the spotlight. Now, we finally have an update—and it’s sparking major debate.
Del Rio, once one of WWE’s biggest stars, has had a rocky history with the company. He first signed in 2009, left in 2014, returned in 2015, and then left again in 2016. But it wasn’t just his in-ring story that made headlines—his personal controversies, including allegations of abuse and serious legal charges (later dropped), left a cloud over his career.
So why is his name back in the WWE conversation now?
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE inherited Del Rio’s AAA contract when they bought the promotion. That means, technically, he’s already under the WWE umbrella. But here’s the catch: the company hasn’t decided whether to actually use him.

Some in WWE believe Del Rio’s massive popularity in Mexico and his undeniable star power could make him a valuable asset. After all, fans at AAA shows still chant his name loudly. Others, however, are strongly against the idea, fearing the backlash and negative headlines that could follow a comeback.
Speaking recently with Eduardo Bates, Del Rio addressed the chants directly:
“Fans love or hate whoever they want. That’s something no one can control. Social media, TV, the internet—it just spreads. We step in the ring to give everything, and people react how they feel.”
But what really raised eyebrows was Del Rio’s praise for Vince McMahon. Despite all the controversies surrounding the former WWE boss, Del Rio called him “the mastermind behind the industry.”
“Vince created all the characters—the golden era of WWE exists because of him,” Del Rio said. “I was always one of his favorites because of my dedication, professionalism, and effectiveness. Alberto Del Rio can do whatever he wants with the crowd—make them believe, make them feel it’s all real.”
So, is WWE ready to roll the dice on Alberto Del Rio one more time? With fans divided and management split, his possible return could be one of the most explosive decisions WWE makes in years.
