“Worst Announcer of 2025”? Booker T Fires Back—And What He Said About Critics Is Turning Heads
WWE Hall of Famer Booker T is not staying quiet after being voted the worst wrestling announcer of 2025—and his reaction is sparking major debate across the wrestling world.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Hall of Fame podcast, the former world champion addressed the controversial fan poll from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The list placed Booker at the top of the “worst announcer” category, alongside major commentary names like Pat McAfee, Michael Cole, Vic Joseph, and Tony Schiavone.
Instead of lashing out, Booker aimed his criticism toward how fan opinions can be shaped.
Booker T Points the Finger at Influence, Not Fans
Booker suggested that audience voting can sometimes be influenced by strong industry voices, appearing to reference veteran wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer and his readership.
According to Booker, when influential figures speak, many fans tend to follow that narrative rather than forming independent opinions. He emphasized that professional wrestling should always prioritize entertainment and fun — warning that the business loses its magic when that element disappears.
Wrestling Names Rush to Defend Him—Including a Top AEW Star

The backlash to the poll quickly spread online, but Booker also received strong public support. He specifically thanked personalities like Sam Roberts and Jonathan Coachman.
Most notably, MJF—one of the top stars in All Elite Wrestling—defended Booker and even called him a “blueprint” for his own success. Booker responded by praising MJF’s talent and star presence, saying true greats build reputations before they even walk into the room.
Booker T Defends His Unique Commentary Style
Booker also addressed criticism of his on-air style, explaining that he intentionally brings his real personality and cultural background into commentary rather than trying to sound like traditional broadcast voices.
He noted that there are still relatively few Black commentators in major wrestling booths and said he’s proud to bring a different voice and energy. Booker compared his style to gumbo—saying not everyone will like it, but plenty of people do.
The Debate Isn’t Ending Anytime Soon
Despite the negative label, Booker made it clear he isn’t changing who he is. If anything, the controversy has only fueled discussion about what fans really want from modern wrestling commentary—personality, polish, or something in between.
