Booker T Says Gunther Is The Perfect Final Challenge For John Cena
WWE Hall of Famer Booker T believes John Cena couldn’t have picked a tougher opponent for his final match.
Speaking on the latest episode of his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T shared his thoughts on Cena facing Gunther in what is being billed as Cena’s retirement match tonight at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, streaming live on Peacock. Gunther earned the opportunity by winning the Last Time Is Now Tournament, setting up a massive clash between generations.
According to Booker, this matchup is the ultimate proving ground for Cena.
“This is the ultimate test for John Cena,” Booker said. “He’s going in there with a guy who’s really staking his claim as the best of this generation. Gunther makes everything feel real — intense, in-your-face, and believable.”
Booker also praised Gunther’s unique presence and realism in the ring, comparing him to one of WWE’s most feared competitors.

“There’s no space between the camera and what Gunther does,” Booker explained. “What you see is as real as it gets. In a lot of ways, he reminds me of Brock Lesnar.”
As for Cena, Booker feels this match is his chance to remind everyone that he still has something left to give.
“This is John Cena showing the young guy how good the old guy still is,” he said. “Cena may not be what he once was, but he can still be great one more time. I truly believe he’s got something left in the tank.”
With emotions running high and legacies on the line, Booker T made it clear — if this really is John Cena’s final match, Gunther is the toughest possible opponent to close the chapter.
