Bully Ray Says WWE Crossed a Dangerous Line With Unreal—and Fans Are Paying the Price

WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has launched a blistering critique of WWE’s behind-the-scenes series WWE Unreal, arguing that the show is exposing secrets fans were never supposed to see—and doing real damage to the business in the process.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, the longtime wrestling veteran didn’t mince words as he addressed the backlash surrounding WWE Unreal, particularly its second season. One storyline that deeply bothered him involved Seth Rollins allegedly faking an injury, a reveal Bully Ray believes crossed a line WWE should never have touched.

According to Bully Ray, professional wrestling survives on emotional investment and belief. By openly showing how storylines and moments are manufactured, WWE risks shattering the illusion that keeps fans hooked. He questioned why the company would voluntarily peel back the curtain when mystery and suspension of disbelief are central to wrestling’s appeal.

The former ECW and WWE star also made it clear that he’s not alone in his thinking. While he may be one of the few willing to say it publicly, Bully Ray claimed many veterans privately share his concerns. In his view, wrestling is built on an unspoken bond among performers—one that relies on protecting the craft, not dissecting it for entertainment.

Bully Ray also pointed to a moment from the first season of WWE Unreal that he found especially harmful: the revelation that Jey Uso’s rise was planned internally rather than driven organically by fan support. He argued that exposing this kind of information takes something away from the audience, making fans feel their reactions and loyalty don’t truly matter.

For Bully Ray, the issue isn’t about being anti-transparency. It’s about understanding the consequences. He warned that shows like WWE Unreal risk alienating the very fans WWE depends on by telling them that passion, cheers, and emotional investment have little real impact on what unfolds in the ring.

As WWE Unreal continues to spark debate, Bully Ray’s comments have reignited a familiar controversy in wrestling circles: how much of the magic can you reveal before there’s nothing left to believe in?
