“It’s Only a Matter of ”Time”—WWE Legend Predicts Shocking Cody Rhodes Heel Turn

Cody Rhodes has spent the last few years as WWE’s ultimate good guy—the suit-wearing, crowd-pleasing hero fans rally behind week after week. But according to one legendary wrestling mind, that squeaky-clean image won’t last forever.

In fact, if you ask Eric Bischoff, Cody’s dark turn isn’t just possible—it’s inevitable.

Rhodes has been firmly planted as a babyface ever since his emotional WWE return in April 2022. Since then, he’s reached the absolute peak of the company, becoming a two-time and current Undisputed WWE Champion and one of the most reliable crowd favorites in the business.

However, speaking on a recent episode of his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff was asked which top WWE star could be next to flip from hero to villain. His answer came quickly.

The first name that jumped into Bischoff’s mind? Cody Rhodes.

Bischoff made it clear he isn’t predicting an immediate betrayal or sudden shock moment—but he strongly believes the turn is coming sooner rather than later.

According to the former WCW president, Cody’s character has reached a point where change is necessary to keep things fresh. Bischoff explained that long-running babyface runs naturally lead to reinvention, and a heel turn is often the most powerful way to “hit the refresh button.”

What makes the potential turn even more interesting is that Bischoff doesn’t think fans would be blindsided by it. In his view, the seeds are already planted, and when it finally happens, it’ll feel like the next logical chapter rather than a forced swerve.

WWE has already flirted with the idea.

Earlier this year, The Rock famously teased wanting Cody’s “soul” during his Final Boss run—a moment that instantly sent fans into speculation mode. Ultimately, Rhodes rejected the offer, staying true to his heroic persona and standing his ground against The Rock’s manipulation.

Behind the scenes, reports suggested that Cody himself wasn’t convinced a heel turn was the right move at the time, believing it wouldn’t benefit the story, the company, or the fans. Rhodes has also been open about the fact that such a major shift wouldn’t be his decision alone — it would require full creative alignment and collaboration.

Still, as wrestling history has shown time and time again, the most beloved heroes often become the most compelling villains.

And if Bischoff’s instincts are right, it’s not a question of if Cody Rhodes turns heel — it’s a question of when.
