Plans Revealed: WWE’s Scrapped Demon Ritual For Dominik Mysterio At SummerSlam
The fireworks finally exploded on WWE Raw this week, bringing an end to Finn Balor’s long and tumultuous reign within The Judgment Day. The segment was tense, personal, and ended with Balor getting jumped by his now-former stablemates after a heated argument with Dominik Mysterio. It was a breakup years in the making, but according to new reports, the original plan for this split was meant to be a lot more theatrical—and it involved bringing the Demon back from the dead.
For those who missed the action, the drama kicked off when Dominik, still bitter about losing the Intercontinental Championship, pointed a finger at Balor. The Prince fired back, calling “Dirty Dom” a spoiled brat and throwing Rey Mysterio’s famous warnings right back in his face. That was the last straw. In seconds, JD McDonagh, Raquel Rodriguez, and Liv Morgan swarmed the ring, leaving Balor bloodied and alone in the center of the ring.
While this moment felt like a sudden implosion, it was actually a long time coming. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE creative had this breakup mapped out nearly a year ago. The original pitch? A massive singles match between Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio at SummerSlam 2025.

But this wasn’t going to be just any match. Sources indicate that the plan specifically called for Balor to resurrect his legendary Demon King persona for the showdown. The idea was to use the painted warrior to give the bout a massive, fight-feel spectacle, putting Dominik over as a serious threat who could force Balor to reach into his darkest depths.
So why did the company hit the brakes? Apparently, WWE felt The Judgment Day was simply too hot to tear apart last summer. With the group riding a wave of momentum, officials decided to protect the act, pushing through the rest of 2025 and heading straight toward WrestleMania 42 before pulling the trigger on the betrayal.
Now that the split is finally here, the big question looming over Raw is whether the Demon will still emerge. With Balor standing alone as a babyface for the first time in years, the stage is perfectly set for him to go back to the well. A feud with Dominik Mysterio—who has cemented himself as one of the most hated heels in the company—would be the perfect excuse to unleash that alter ego.
For now, Balor is licking his wounds, but don’t be surprised if the paint comes out the next time he locks eyes with the man who stabbed him in the back.
