🔥 “He Lost to Who?” — WWE Veteran Tears Into Gunther’s Brock Lesnar Hype and Fans Are Divided
WWE’s recent booking has sparked plenty of debate, but one rumored matchup is drawing especially loud criticism — and not from fans alone. After Gunther forced John Cena to tap out in Saturday Night’s Main Event, effectively ending Cena’s legendary in-ring career, WWE wasted no time positioning The Ring General as an unstoppable force. That victory came just months after Gunther also defeated Goldberg in his farewell match, making it two all-time icons laid to rest by the Austrian powerhouse.
Naturally, speculation exploded: Is WWE grooming Gunther for a blockbuster clash with Brock Lesnar?
Not everyone is buying it.
Vince Russo Drops the Hammer on Gunther’s Credibility
On the latest episode of The Coach and Bro, Jonathan Coachman floated the idea of Gunther eventually facing Brock Lesnar. Former WWE writer Vince Russo immediately shut it down — and didn’t mince words.
Russo questioned how anyone could realistically believe Gunther stands a chance against The Beast Incarnate, pointing directly to some recent high-profile losses.
“What would possess you to think that Gunther can beat Brock Lesnar when he lost to Sami Zayn?” Russo said.
“He lost to Jey Uso. He’s going to beat Brock Lesnar? In what universe does that make sense?”

According to Russo, it’s not about losing — it’s how Gunther lost. He argued that believable defeats can still protect a star, but tapping out and dropping major titles to opponents like Zayn and Uso severely damaged Gunther’s aura as a dominant threat.
The Losses That Won’t Go Away
Gunther’s resume took notable hits at the biggest stages:
- WrestleMania 40: Lost the Intercontinental Championship to Sami Zayn
- WrestleMania 41: Tapped out to Jey Uso, ending his World Heavyweight Championship reign
For Russo, those moments make the idea of Gunther conquering Brock Lesnar feel like fantasy booking — not reality.
Is Brock Lesnar Nearing the End?
Adding even more intrigue, John Cena recently hinted in an interview that Brock Lesnar could be eyeing retirement, potentially at SummerSlam next year in Minnesota — Lesnar’s home turf.
Dave Meltzer later reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that while no official retirement date has been confirmed, Lesnar’s name has come up internally when WWE discusses farewell-style runs for veterans like AJ Styles and Chris Jericho.
The Big Question
Is WWE building Gunther as the next final boss — or has inconsistent booking already undermined that vision?
One thing is clear: If WWE really plans to put Gunther across the ring from Brock Lesnar, they’ll have a lot of convincing to do — especially with voices like Vince Russo calling the logic into question.
And as always in WWE… perception might matter just as much as power. 💥
