Hardy Boys Drop Honest Advice They’d Give Their Younger Selves—And It’s Deeply Personal

The Hardy Boys have done it all in professional wrestling. From redefining tag team wrestling to surviving the physical and personal toll that came with their high-risk style, Matt and Jeff Hardy are living proof that longevity in this business comes at a cost.

Now in 2026, the legendary brothers are looking back—and they’re being brutally honest about what they wish they had known when their careers were just getting started.

During a recent appearance on the Rivet City Podcast, Matt and Jeff were asked a fascinating question: if they could sit down with their rookie selves, what advice would they give?

Matt Hardy didn’t hesitate, focusing on the wear and tear that comes from wrestling like you’re indestructible.

He explained that his present-day self would warn young Matt to stop treating his body like it’s unbreakable. Instead of constantly pushing the limits, he said those dangerous, crowd-pleasing moves should be saved for moments that truly matter. Picking the right spots, using them in meaningful scenarios, and learning to conserve his body could have made a massive difference over the years.

Jeff Hardy’s answer cut even deeper.

Jeff said he would tell his younger self to wrestle every match like it could be the last — but just as importantly, he’d deliver a serious warning about life outside the ring. He admitted he would strongly urge himself to stay away from drugs and alcohol, a struggle that has been well-documented throughout his career.

The moment offered a rare, reflective look at two icons who aren’t afraid to admit the mistakes that shaped them — and nearly broke them.

In the same interview, Matt Hardy also discussed how he and Jeff have evolved into locker room leaders during their time in TNA, showing just how far the brothers have come from the reckless risk-takers they once were.
