🔥 “That Was Really the End…” — WWE Star Reveals the Emotional Backstage Moment After John Cena’s Final Match
The WWE locker room felt very different the night John Cena wrestled his final match—and now Je’Von Evans is opening up about what really happened behind the curtain.
Cena’s shocking loss to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 didn’t just stun fans—it left the entire backstage area filled with emotion. The 16-time world champion tapped out in his retirement bout, a finish that instantly divided the WWE Universe and made the moment feel even more final.
Je’Von Evans, who competed on the same show alongside Leon Slater in a WWE World Tag Team Championship match, recently spoke with Going Ringside and described the atmosphere backstage as something he’ll never forget.
“The Vibe Was Different—in a Good Way”
According to Evans, the locker room was buzzing, but not in the usual chaotic way.
“The vibe was different but in a good way,” Evans said. “Everyone was in great spirits. Of course it was very busy, but everyone was there, everyone was having a great time. It was honestly an honor just to be present and experience all of that.”

Not Sad—Just Deeply Emotional
While many fans expected total heartbreak backstage, Evans explained that the feeling was more emotional than depressing.
“I don’t think everybody was sad,” he explained. “It was emotional, because we realized that somebody we grew up watching—someone we watched for so long—he’s done.”
And Evans made it clear this wasn’t just another “retirement angle.”
“When he says he’s done in the ring, he means it. I know for a fact it’s over. He’s not stepping into his gear anymore. That’s wraps.”
The End of an Era
For an entire generation of WWE Superstars and fans, John Cena wasn’t just a performer—he was the standard. And if Je’Von Evans’ words are any indication, the locker room knew that December night wasn’t just another show.
It was the final chapter of a legend.
