Kevin Owens Shocks Fans With Surprise Role in Independent Wrestling Return!
WWE superstar Kevin Owens may be sidelined from the ring due to surgery and ongoing health issues, but that hasn’t stopped him from making his presence felt in the wrestling world.
Owens, who announced earlier this year that he’d be taking a hiatus to recover from neck problems, recently popped up in a special way for an independent promotion close to his roots — Green Mountain Wrestling (GMW).
Owens Opens Green Mountain Classic
Appearing via video message, Owens kicked off the promotion’s big Green Mountain Classic event. While he couldn’t be there in person, the former WWE Universal Champion congratulated “Moonlight Son” Mike Skyros for becoming the first-ever GMW Champion.

For longtime fans, this was a special moment. Before making it big in WWE, Owens — then known as Kevin Steen — built his reputation on the independent scene. His return, even through a screen, felt like a full-circle moment.
Big Boost for GMW
Owens admitted he’s been following the promotion for a while and is thrilled to see its rapid growth. For an up-and-coming indie brand, getting recognition from one of WWE’s biggest stars is a huge endorsement.
The Road to Recovery
As for Owens’ own future, things are still uncertain. After an MRI earlier this year revealed severe neck damage, he underwent surgery in July. Though the procedure was successful, doctors have advised a lengthy recovery that could keep him out of action for well over a year.
Owens remains hopeful, telling fans he wants to be back in a WWE ring before the end of next year — but only time will tell.
🔥 Fans are now buzzing with one question: Could Kevin Owens’ indie cameo be a hint of what’s next once he returns?
