Leon Slater Embraces “Generational Clash” Against AJ Styles at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

Leon Slater is stepping onto one of the biggest stages of his young career — and he’s ready to make history.

The reigning TNA X-Division Champion will compete tonight at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, teaming with NXT standout Je’Von Evans in a high-stakes tag team title match. The duo will challenge WWE World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Dragon Lee, making this one of the most talked-about bouts on the stacked card.

At just 21 years old, Slater has already rewritten the record books as the youngest X-Division Champion ever. Now, he finds himself sharing the ring with a close friend — and chasing WWE gold at the same time.

Speaking on The A2theK Wrestling Show, Slater couldn’t hide his excitement about teaming with Evans.

“I’m so happy it’s me and Je’Von. I wouldn’t want to do this with anyone else,” Slater said. “Since working with NXT and especially after our match at Bound For Glory, we’ve become real friends. Getting a moment like this with one of my best friends is special.”

A win would be monumental for both men. It would mark their first WWE championship victory, while also making Slater a double champion, holding titles in both WWE and TNA simultaneously.

That achievement would place Slater in an exclusive club alongside Jacy Jayne, Matt Hardy, and Jeff Hardy — elite names who have held gold across both promotions.

Slater also spoke passionately about facing AJ Styles, the very first X-Division Champion and a defining figure in TNA history.

“AJ Styles is ‘Mr. TNA,’” Slater explained. “It feels like a generational clash — the guy who helped build TNA versus the guy who’s hoping to carry it into the future in 2026.”

He also had high praise for the reigning champions’ partner.

“You can’t overlook Dragon Lee,” Slater added. “He’s one of the best luchadors in the world, and he always has something to prove.”

Trained by Revolution Pro Wrestling’s Liam Slater (no relation), Leon Slater made his pro wrestling debut in 2022 and has risen at a remarkable pace. The Bradford, England native is now preparing for a night that could define his future — on the same show that will eventually host John Cena’s final match.

Tonight isn’t just another match for Leon Slater.

It’s a statement.
