Oba Femi Drops Massive Hint About WWE Future, and It Involves Shutting Down a Legend

The former NXT champion has been playing hard to get with both RAW and SmackDown, but one veteran star might have just sealed the deal. Oba Femi is officially the hottest free agent in WWE right now, and he knows it.

Since walking away from the NXT Championship and making a stunning Royal Rumble debut that saw him eliminate five Superstars before Brock Lesnar finally put a stop to his momentum, Femi has become the most sought-after unsigned talent in the company. Both RAW and SmackDown have been aggressively courting him, weaving him into programming while he quietly weighs his options.

But now the powerhouse has opened up about where he’s leaning—and it’s not good news for anyone hoping to see him land on the blue brand.

During a candid conversation on No-Contest Wrestling, Femi admitted he’s been using the interest from both shows to negotiate the best possible deal for himself. But when asked about what might finally push him off the fence, he pointed directly to one name: Rusev.

“We’re still trying to leverage ourselves a better contract. We’re always trying to do that,” Femi said. “But the other day, Rusev came up to me, he was eyeing me. I’m like, ‘Okay you old man, I’ll put you out of your misery. Don’t worry, you’ll get your turn.’ And if it gets to that level, because of Rusev, just because of Rusev, I just might go RAW.”

That kind of talk signals more than just brand preference. It sounds like a man ready to make a statement.

RAW has been quietly building tension between Femi and the veteran star for weeks, and it appears those backstage encounters are starting to pay off. If Femi does sign with the red brand, a program with Rusev would give him an immediate high-profile feud and a chance to prove he belongs with the main roster’s top talent.

Not that SmackDown is backing down.

The blue brand has been making its own play by giving Femi real in-ring opportunities. He already dispatched Kit Wilson with ease and has been positioned for a potential program with The Miz following a heated backstage exchange. Those are meaningful options, and both shows understand exactly what they’d be getting: a young, dominant force who looked completely believable standing across from Brock Lesnar.

For now, Femi isn’t rushing. He’s taking meetings, considering his options, and letting both brands make their case. But if Rusev keeps staring him down, this decision might get made for him.

And someone’s about to find out what happens when you poke the bear.
