“I Was Hurt by That Call”—R-Truth Breaks Silence on WWE Exit Confusion and Emotional Fallout
R-Truth has finally opened up about one of the most confusing and emotional moments of his legendary WWE career — the phone call that made him believe he had been released.
The veteran superstar, whose real name is Ron Killings, was informed on June 1, 2025, that WWE would not be renewing his contract. Truth immediately took that message as a release and shared the news publicly, sending shockwaves through the wrestling world. Just six days later, he stunned fans by returning at the Money in the Bank premium live event, creating widespread confusion about what really happened behind the scenes.
Now, new details have come to light.
The entire situation is explored in WWE: Unreal Season 2, where WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H clarified that R-Truth was technically never fired. According to Triple H, WWE simply allowed Truth’s contract to expire as a negotiation strategy, believing it would open the door for discussions on a new deal.

But for R-Truth, the message didn’t feel like business — it felt personal.
“I got the call that my contract wasn’t going to be renewed, and I’m like, ‘So am I released? Am I?’ I took it as I was released. I just… I was hurt,” Truth admitted in the sneak peek video, via Fightful.
The emotional response explains why the situation escalated so quickly in public. What WWE viewed as a contract tactic, Truth experienced as an abrupt and painful goodbye.
Fortunately, the story didn’t end there.
Shortly after his shocking return, R-Truth signed a brand-new long-term deal with the company. Speaking to TV Insider, he revealed that his current agreement is a four-year contract with an additional three-year option, securing his WWE future through at least 2028 — and possibly beyond.
“I signed a four-year deal with a three-year option,” Truth said. “That’s one of the things with the wrestling business. People speculate and throw things out there, but they don’t know the story behind it — or the truth of it.”
After decades of entertaining fans, R-Truth’s honesty sheds light on the harsh realities of the wrestling business — and proves that even the most beloved veterans aren’t immune to difficult moments behind the curtain.
