“I Wasn’t Ready for It to ”End”—Rob Van Dam Gets Emotional Over John Cena’s Shocking Final WWE Loss
John Cena’s legendary WWE career came to a stunning and emotional close at Saturday Night’s Main Event — and even the veterans at ringside weren’t prepared for how it all went down.
For the first time in over 20 years, Cena was forced to tap out inside a WWE ring, falling to GUNTHER in what was officially his final match. The finish instantly divided fans online, but one thing was clear: the moment hit hard for everyone in the building, especially WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam.
RVD had a front-row seat for Cena’s final bow and even shared a heartfelt embrace with the 17-time world champion before the bell rang. Speaking with TMZ Inside the Ring, Van Dam opened up about his raw reaction once the match was over.
“I expected it, I guess,” RVD admitted. “But I was still kind of bummed that it was over — and so final. There’s no going back once they ring that bell. That match is done.”

Despite knowing the end was coming, Van Dam said the reality of it didn’t make the moment any easier to accept.
“You know it’s coming, but that doesn’t make it any more enjoyable,” he continued. “I was disappointed because I would’ve loved to see it go another 20 minutes. I was having fun watching it.”
Cena’s final night wasn’t just about the match. Before stepping into the ring one last time, he shared emotional moments with several WWE legends, including Kurt Angle, Mark Henry, Trish Stratus, and Booker T. Kevin Owens—largely absent from WWE TV in 2025 due to neck surgery — was also present to show his respect.
As the bell rang and Cena’s iconic run officially ended, the feeling was unanimous: win or lose, WWE will never be quite the same again.
