Stone Cold Steve Austin’s WWE Return Suddenly Back in Play? Major Internal Update Gets Fans Talking
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin may not be finished with WWE just yet. The last time fans saw the Texas Rattlesnake was at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, where he appeared on Night Two to announce the official attendance at Allegiant Stadium. A night earlier, Austin added another historic accolade to his résumé by entering the WWE Hall of Fame once again—this time alongside Bret Hart in the newly created Match Wing for their iconic Submission Match at WrestleMania 13.
That legendary bout is still widely viewed as one of the greatest matches in WrestleMania history and a turning point that launched Austin into superstardom during WWE’s Attitude Era.
Before WrestleMania 41, Austin’s most memorable return came at WrestleMania 38. What was originally advertised as a simple segment on The Kevin Owens Show turned into something far bigger. Austin accepted Owens’ challenge, competed in his first match in 19 years, and defeated him with a Stunner—nearly two decades after retiring following his loss to The Rock at WrestleMania 19.
Now, there’s fresh reason to believe another WWE appearance could be on the horizon.
According to a new report from WrestleVotes via Fightful Select, internal discussions have taken place within WWE regarding Steve Austin making an appearance in the near future. While no specific show, date, or role has been finalized, Austin’s name has reportedly been circulating across multiple departments, which is often a sign that something is being explored seriously.

Austin remains one of the most recognizable figures in wrestling history—a multiple-time world champion and the defining face of WWE’s most explosive era. Naturally, that raises the big question: if he does return, what would it look like?
With WrestleMania once again tied to Las Vegas and Austin based in Nevada, speculation is already heating up. Looking ahead, WrestleMania 43 is scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia, where WWE is expected to load the card with major names. Any appearance by Austin—whether in-ring or not—would instantly become one of the most talked-about moments.
Fans have already begun fantasy-booking potential opponents, with names like CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, and Brock Lesnar frequently mentioned. In the past, Austin was reportedly pitched a match with Roman Reigns and even a role in the finish of Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. Those plans never materialized, leading to The Undertaker stepping in as the surprise presence instead.
Still, Austin has made it clear that the door isn’t closed. In a recent interview, he admitted that while WrestleMania 40 didn’t work out, he’s open to doing more with WWE when the timing and situation make sense.
For now, nothing is official—but with Stone Cold’s name quietly buzzing backstage again, fans may want to keep their eyes open. Another chapter in WWE history could be closer than anyone expected.
