“Is It Me Next?” The Miz Breaks Silence on WWE Releases and Admits He’s Felt the Fear Too

WWE roster cuts have become an uncomfortable reality over the past few years, and even the most established names haven’t been immune to the uncertainty behind the scenes.

What began as pandemic-driven layoffs slowly turned into a recurring trend, catching many fans—and performers—off guard. Big names have come and gone, with former world champions and longtime veterans suddenly finding themselves looking for opportunities outside Stamford.

One of the most shocking examples was Braun Strowman’s release last year. Once positioned as a monster attraction, Strowman reportedly sensed the writing on the wall after being left off the WrestleMania 41 card in Las Vegas. His departure sent a clear message: no spot is ever truly guaranteed.

Now, The Miz has opened up about how those releases hit closer to home than many might expect.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, the former WWE Champion admitted that even with his résumé, doubt still creeps in when cuts start happening.

“For me, this is going to sound very cocky and arrogant,” The Miz said. “I know how valuable I am. I know how good I am… But yes, there’s always in the back of your mind, ‘Oh, is it me? Is it me? Is it me?’”

Despite his confidence, The Miz acknowledged that the constant turnover forces everyone to reflect on their place in the company. At the same time, he leaned on his longevity and accomplishments as reassurance that he still has plenty left to give.

“I’ve done a lot in this business, and I still got more,” he added.

The emotional toll became even more real when longtime friend Dolph Ziggler was released. According to The Miz, that moment marked the end of an era for him personally.

“That was a tough one for me to see Dolph Ziggler go,” he said. “That was kind of like the last of my really core group of friends. I’ve had such great matches with Dolph too… He was a big part of elevating that Intercontinental Title.”

While WWE’s leadership under Triple H has made it clear that difficult decisions will continue if they believe it benefits the company, The Miz’s comments pull back the curtain on a side of WWE fans rarely see — where even the most reliable stars quietly wonder if they could be next.
