The Rock Called Out For “Lying” About His WWE Power — Did He Really Influence John Cena’s Farewell Run?

The Rock Called Out For “Lying” About His WWE Power — Did He Really Influence John Cena’s Farewell Run?

WWE fans are buzzing after The Rock claimed he had a hand in shaping John Cena’s retirement tour — but not everyone’s buying it. Former WWE personality Jonathan Coachman isn’t convinced The Great One is telling the full story.

💬 Coachman Calls Out The Rock

On his “Coach and Bro” show, Coachman broke down The Rock’s recent comments, questioning how much influence the Hollywood megastar actually has in WWE’s creative direction.

“If The Rock is on the board of directors — and he’s the most famous guy there — of course, people will listen to him. But he’s not ‘The Rock the wrestler’ anymore, he’s ‘Rock the board member,’” Coachman explained.

He then raised a crucial point about Cena’s supposed creative freedom:

“If John truly has control over his farewell, why would TKO sell his final match to the highest bidder instead of just putting it where it belongs — in Boston? I don’t buy that Cena is making those business calls.”

🎭 Vince Russo Weighs In

Former WWE writer Vince Russo backed up part of Coachman’s doubts but added his own spin:

“Cena definitely has a say in his matches — who he wrestles, that’s all him. You can tell because he picked AJ Styles. That’s a wrestler’s move — Cena knows he’ll have a classic with AJ.”

But Russo agreed that the financial side of things — like where Cena’s final match happens — isn’t in Cena’s hands.

🤔 The Cena vs. Lesnar Mystery

Coachman didn’t stop there. He brought up another puzzling moment — Cena’s shocking loss to Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza.

“If Cena really has creative control, why choose to lose like that to Brock — and then just move on without addressing it? It doesn’t add up.”

Russo responded by calling out WWE’s lack of long-term storytelling:

“They’re booking month-to-month with no real story arc. If Brock or The Rock is Cena’s last opponent, that story should’ve started months ago.”

⚡ The Bottom Line

While The Rock insists he has “a little influence” behind the scenes, Coachman and Russo aren’t so sure. Fans are now left wondering — is The Rock overselling his WWE role, or is he really pulling strings in Cena’s emotional final run?

Either way, one thing’s for sure — the road to John Cena’s retirement just got a lot more dramatic.
