“My Hole” Was Never Meant for the Internet: WWE Star Reveals Viral Moment Was Just to Make Vince McMahon Laugh

A moment that broke the internet was never supposed to leave the arena. One of WWE’s most infamous viral clips came from a near-empty ThunderDome-era episode of Monday Night Raw in January 2021, when Nia Jax faced Lana in a Tables match. During the bout, Jax attempted a brutal-looking leg drop from the apron, landed hard, and immediately shouted a line that would echo across social media within minutes.

“My hole!”

The clip exploded online, trended worldwide, and instantly became part of WWE meme culture. But according to Nia Jax, the moment was never meant for fans at home—it was aimed squarely at Vince McMahon.

Speaking recently on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, Jax pulled back the curtain on how the now-legendary line came together. She revealed the shout was a last-minute joke designed to pop Vince McMahon, Triple H, and others watching from the Gorilla position backstage.

At the time, Jax and Lana were deep into a long-running storyline that saw Lana repeatedly put through tables—nine times, as Jax pointed out. The Tables match was meant to be the next chapter, and during rehearsals, the idea of a leg drop from the apron came up.

Jax wasn’t exactly thrilled.

She joked beforehand that the move would destroy her tailbone and casually tossed out the line “What about my hole?” as a laugh during pre-show conversations with Triple H. With no live crowd due to COVID restrictions, everyone knew anything said in the ring would be crystal clear on the broadcast.

That’s when Jax decided to go for it.

Her goal wasn’t shock value or internet fame—it was simply to crack up Vince McMahon and the crew backstage. She assumed it would be a funny inside joke, something only those behind the curtain would really enjoy.

Instead, the moment went nuclear online.

By the time Jax got backstage, she thought she was in serious trouble. What she found instead was the opposite reaction. WWE officials loved it. The clip was everywhere, fans couldn’t stop talking about it, and for a brief moment, WWE even considered turning the line into merchandise.

Yes, a real “My Hole” T-shirt was designed and nearly went to print—something Jax joked would have been her first truly memorable piece of merch. Ultimately, the idea was scrapped, but the moment had already cemented itself in wrestling history.

What started as a throwaway joke meant to make Vince McMahon laugh ended up becoming one of the most talked-about WWE moments of the pandemic era—and a reminder that sometimes, the most unplanned moments are the ones fans never forget.
