Booker T Just Gave CM Punk’s Raw Promo the Ultimate Compliment – And Young Wrestlers Need to Hear This
On the latest episode of the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T broke down CM Punk’s opening promo from the April 6th episode of WWE Raw in Houston. Punk didn’t just call out Roman Reigns ahead of WrestleMania – he took fans on a trip through Houston’s wrestling roots.
And Booker T loved every second of it.
“He seemed like he did his history lesson before he came to Houston,” Booker said, pointing out Punk’s reference to legendary promoter Paul Boesch. “Houston wrestling was it, man. I wear the ring of Paul Boesch. This ring right here is over 60 years old.”
Booker admitted that Boesch might have been before Punk’s era, but that didn’t stop Punk from honoring the past.

“For him to do that, I appreciate him giving Paul Boesch and Houston wrestling a shout,” Booker added. “It was a staple in my life as a kid watching it. Never in a million years would I have thought I would grow up to be a professional wrestler watching those giants of men back then. Big up to CM Punk for that.”
But here’s where Booker got real. He said Punk’s promo wasn’t just good – it was a masterclass.
“That’s something these young kids can learn,” Booker explained. “That falls under Dusty Rhodes’ playbook of cutting a promo. Knowing what city you’re in, doing the research, and being able to talk about it so the fans come on board. That is so smart and unique and old school.”
Booker closed with a warning to today’s younger talent.
“I don’t know if any of the young guys back there caught that, but that was a promo lesson from CM Punk.”
