MJF Just Picked A Side In The Greatest WWE Debate Ever And Fans Are Furious
For years, wrestling fans have argued until they were blue in the face: Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels?
MJF finally shut down the debate, and his answer is turning heads.
During a recent chat with Ariel Helwani, the former AEW World Champion didn’t dance around the question. He admitted Bret Hart is an all-time great, but then he dropped the hammer.
“He’s one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time,” MJF said. “He’s no Shawn Michaels.”
The AEW star knew he would catch heat for the take, especially since Shawn works for the competition at WWE NXT. But MJF refused to pretend otherwise just for brand loyalty.
According to Maxwell, Shawn was simply better in every category: better on the mic, more athletic, more exciting, and he had that special magnetism that pulled you into the screen. As for Bret? MJF said The Hitman was excellent during an era where pure workrate could carry you, but his promos never hit that “wow” level.
He made sure to clarify he wasn’t trying to trash a legend. “He’s a hall of famer,” MJF added. “But when you put him bar for bar against Shawn? I never understood the comparison.”
So who does MJF think is the real gold standard? Not Bret. Not Shawn. He says Steve Austin is the actual bar. And interestingly, Austin’s biggest run happened while Bret was gone and Shawn was sidelined with an injury.
