CM Punk Just Admitted Why Danhausen Is “Perfect” for WWE—And It’s Not What You Expect
You might think CM Punk and Danhausen are best friends backstage. Think again. In a rare interview on ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike just days before WrestleMania 42, the World Heavyweight Champion broke character just enough to explain his very strange, very funny relationship with wrestling’s favorite “very nice, very evil” eccentric.
And according to Punk? It all comes down to cash.
“I wouldn’t say I’m great friends with him,” Punk said, keeping one foot firmly in kayfabe. “The relationship is more: I keep giving him money, and he doesn’t curse me. A lot of people need to take a lesson from that. He’s cursing people left and right, and all you have to do is give the guy some cash.”
That’s right. In Punk’s world, Danhausen isn’t a tag team partner or a locker room buddy. He’s a supernatural threat you pay to stay on your good side.
But then Punk said something that turned heads across the wrestling world.
Why Danhausen “Belongs” in WWE
When asked what makes Danhausen such a fit for the global giant, Punk didn’t hesitate.

“He’s perfect for WWE. He’s perfect for what we do. Sometimes, you find a talent that has always kind of belonged here, and you never really realized it.”
Punk went on to call Danhausen a “throwback”—a true gimmick in an era where everyone tries to be a “serious athlete.”
“He’s so entertaining,” Punk added. “You can put him in any single situation, and it’s more about how other people react or don’t react to him.”
Then came the punchline: “Hopefully, I said enough nice things about him that he’s not gonna curse me.”
The Backstory You Didn’t Know
Reports have previously suggested that Punk played a key role in WWE signing Danhausen earlier this year. Whether that’s true or just more wrestling smoke and mirrors, one thing is clear: Punk sees value in the curse-loving cult favorite that most people miss.
Of course, avoiding a curse won’t be Punk’s biggest problem this weekend.
He’s set to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 42: Sunday tomorrow night at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The show streams live on the ESPN App in the U.S. and on Netflix everywhere else.
So will Danhausen show up at WrestleMania? Will Punk finally get cursed mid-match?
And more importantly—has anyone checked if Punk paid his latest installment?
One thing’s for sure: in WWE right now, no one is safe. Except maybe the guy who keeps his wallet open.
