Cody Rhodes Just Admitted Why He Rushed Back After That Horrific WrestleMania 42 Injury – And It’s Not What You Think

Most people would have taken a stretcher. Cody Rhodes chose to walk. After getting absolutely destroyed by Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42, the Undisputed WWE Champion stunned everyone by returning to TV almost immediately. No neck brace. No dramatic exit. Just blood, a swollen shut eye, and a message.

In a new interview with Joe Tessitore, Rhodes finally opened up about why he refused to stay down.

Everything you needed to know about me happened after that match, Rhodes said. I got up and I walked. I didn’t put on some silly Manila neck brace. I didn’t have myself boarded away.

He admits he was lucky to escape without a concussion or an orbital fracture. But luck had nothing to do with his decision to come back fast.

Rhodes says he locked eyes with as many people as possible while leaving the arena. His goal was simple. He wanted everyone to know two things: he was still the champion, and he was still present.

Then came the real question. Why rush back when other top stars choose to rest?

His answer came down to one word: consistency.

There is always a flavor of the month, Rhodes explained. There is always some hot new thing. But all my favorites, all the QB1s before me, were consistent. Week in and week out.

He even welcomed the comparisons to John Cena’s notorious workhorse schedule, calling it a hell of a model that most people run away from because it means work.

Cody didn’t stop there. He took a subtle shot at other top names in WWE who prefer a less is more strategy. He said he will not play that game.

I will be here every week, he promised. I will see this team every week. It is not a matter of who is right or wrong. It is just my preference.

The timing matters. Rhodes is already set to defend his title against Gunther at Clash in Italy on May 31. No time off. No excuses.

He previously shared backstage photos from WrestleMania 42 that showed his left eye completely swollen shut while medical staff worked on him. His doctor gave him a bizarre but relieving update. You won’t lose the eye. Rhodes called it the most positive yet absurd thing he has ever heard in a doctor’s office.

Some fans think he should have taken more time to heal. Others call him the toughest guy in the room.

Either way, Cody Rhodes made his stance clear. The champion shows up. Even when his face looks like ground beef.

Do you respect him for rushing back or is he being reckless with his own body? Share your take in the comments.
