She Said Goodbye? IYO SKY Breaks Silence After Emotional WWE Backlash Match That Has Fans Worried About Asuka

The stunning showdown between IYO SKY and Asuka at WWE Backlash 2026 was more than just a match. It felt like a farewell. And now, IYO SKY has finally spoken out.

Following her hard-fought victory over her longtime mentor and rival on May 9, the two Japanese icons shared a rare, tearful embrace in the center of the ring. Asuka soaked in the crowd’s love, hugging IYO before waving to fans in a moment that left everyone watching wondering the same thing: Is this it for The Empress?

Days later, SKY took to social media with a message that reads like a final letter to a legend.

“Our story comes to its final chapter with today’s match,” IYO wrote, translated from Japanese. “The moment the match ended, my heart was filled with all sorts of emotions. Meeting Asuka-san, spending the same time together, being able to learn so much up close—these are irreplaceable treasures to me. Thank you so much, Asuka-san. We love you, Asuka-san.”

She also tagged Kairi Sane, a key part of this emotional storyline before her own shocking WWE departure.

So why does this feel like a retirement?

Fans started sounding the alarm even before Backlash. Asuka posted a moody photo to her Instagram story just before the event, set to Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” with the haunting lyrics about facing “the final curtain.” You don’t have to read between the lines too hard to feel the weight there.

WWE stars have since flooded social media with tributes. Even Big E openly questioned on the Backlash post-show whether Asuka is truly done with the company. As for Charlotte Flair? She simply responded “just a fan” when asked what her own tribute meant.

Now comes the update no one wanted to hear. According to Dave Meltzer, he was told Asuka is now considered “semi-retired.”

If this really is the end, what a career. Royal Rumble winner. Money in the Bank holder. Champion on Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. But more than that, a pioneer who changed the game for women’s wrestling in WWE.

No emojis. No overhyped graphics. Just an honest, tear-stained goodbye from one warrior to another. And a whole lot of fans hitting Google to ask one question: Will we ever see Asuka wrestle again?
