Vince McMahon Wanted to Kill This Epic WWE Losing Streak on a Random Tuesday, But the Star Said No

Exclusive Insider Look: Most WWE Superstars would kill for a phone call from Vince McMahon offering to end a losing streak. But according to one former champion, he actually turned the boss down.

During a recent chat on Chris Van Vliet’s “Insight” podcast, former WWE star Curt Hawkins (real name Brian Myers) spilled the beans on a moment that almost ruined one of the company’s best long-term stories.

Here is the twist: Vince McMahon wanted to throw away Hawkins’ infamous 100-plus match losing streak on a random episode of WWE Main Event in Brooklyn.

“I was gonna beat Heath Slater on Main Event because we were in Brooklyn, and Vince was just like, ‘Oh, it’s Hawkins’ hometown. Let’s give him one,’” Myers recalled. When the writer brought him the news, Myers’ reaction shocked everyone. “No, that’s a terrible idea.”

While most wrestlers beg for a win, Hawkins was playing the long game. He knew that beating Heath Slater on a show nobody watches would be forgotten by morning. So he gambled on himself.

That decision paid off big time. The losing streak finally ended on the grandest stage of them all: WrestleMania 35 in 2019. It turned a forgettable statistic into a feel-good moment that fans still remember.

Why He Keeps Going

During the same interview, the 41-year-old opened up about his passion for wrestling, admitting he will cry like a baby when he finally hangs up his boots. But don’t expect that anytime soon. With legends like Edge, Christian, and Chris Jericho still performing at high levels, Myers says he feels more motivated than ever to stay in top shape and keep throwing himself between the ropes.
