The official venue for WWE Backlash 2026, the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, is already advertising Cena for the May 9 show with a bold all-caps announcement: “JOHN CENA RETURNS TO TAMPA AT BACKLASH!”
But that’s not all. The 16-time world champion took to Twitter to confirm his appearance and tease something much larger than a typical return.
“It’s official! I’m headed to WWE Backlash!” Cena wrote. “After months of planning and effort, I am SO excited to break some history-making news. I can’t promise it’ll be perfect but I can promise it will change the WWE experience for Superstars and fans.”
Cena ended his message by inviting everyone to watch live in Tampa or from home on the ESPN app.
