What Sheamus Said About Attitude Era Matches Will Make You Rewatch Everything

Think the Attitude Era was pure wrestling gold? One of WWE’s hardest hitters wants you to take off those rose-colored glasses.

In a recent chat on The Late Run with Chad Ochocinco and Raheem Taylor-Parkes, Sheamus got real about wrestling’s most talked-about era. While fans constantly praise the wild, anything-goes days of the late 90s, the Celtic Warrior has a different take.

According to Sheamus, if you actually sit down and rewatch those classic matches, the formula was surprisingly simple.

“Everyone talks about the attitude era, the attitude era was like balls to the wall, right? Anything goes,” Sheamus said. “If you go back and look at a lot of those matches, they’re just like 6,000 kicks and 6,000 punches.”

So what made those chaotic fights legendary? The fans, not the fight sequences. Sheamus credits the electric crowds for elevating everything, admitting, “The crowd was so hot. What made that era so great was the crowds, the crowds were just nuts.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Sheamus also sent a message to today’s US audiences, asking them to get more creative with their chants. You can check out his full interview at the link above.
